Vietnam Veteran's Trip to VietnamIf you had a tour of duty in Vietnam and did not receive a Purple Heart signifying you were wounded as a result of enemy action, you can still go to Vietnam. My wife and I went in March 2017 with a group of Americal Division veterans. Eleven women were in the group including three who were Vietnam veterans. We entered and departed Vietnam at Saigon. March is in the dry season but the temperature at sea level reaches the 90s each day and humidity is high. Tours via contract bus included Saigon, Cu Chi City, the Tunnels of Cu Chi, Tay Ninh City and Province; flight to Qui Nhon then via contract bus, to Quang Ngai and Quang Nam Provinces concentrating on bases (LZs) and cities where the Americal Division operated including Quang Ngai City, Chu Lai, Tam Ky, Hoi An and Da Nang. We had the same drivers throughout up north, US veteran and Vietnamese guides, all excellent. The Hotels were overall excellent. For example, the one in Tam Ky is 20 stories and opened in 2015, Da Nang 18 stories and right on the Han River. Da Nang has numerous hotels of this size. All are air-conditioned. Outstanding beaches all along the South China Sea. Generally we had group meals. Plenty to eat and tasty. Beer, wine and liquor widely available. No one got sick from food that we know of. The guides have reputations to protect so they are going to take you to quality places or recommend the same if you want to go out on your own. There are things to shop for too such as silk goods. There were no hidden costs.
